A wild and wacky horror-kung fu mashup, Hammer's THE LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES comes to Region A Blu-ray courtesy of Shout Factory. This movie was a result of Hammer head Michael Carreras trying to find new avenues for the company during the early 1970s. Carreras entered into a two-picture deal with Hong Kong based martial arts movie.

The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires surprisingly works and is a blast of fun. Its quite admirable and surprising how this works as equally both a classic Hammer film AND a Shaw Bros feature. This film should never have worked, but it completely does. Scream Factory has done a pretty admirable job in getting this to Blu-ray with solid audio and video. The extras provided are quite nice and.
Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is presented 2:35:1 and The Witches is at 1:66:1 both in 1080p transfers. Both are quite excellent, but the Witches stands out with excellent detail, colors that pop from the screen, and a nice film like texture. Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires look similarly solid, though Scream had to use SD inserts to recreate the U.S. cut of the film that are color timed to.

The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is relatively successful in the imaginative mixing of ancient and modern supernatural lore, in a weird way anticipating John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China. There is an odd rhythm to the film. Sequences of the vampires terrorizing villagers and feeding on bare-breasted victims arranged around a.
Factory's Blu-ray release of The Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires presents one of Hammer's quirkiest, albeit very entertaining, horror pictures in nice shape and with a solid array of extra features as well. The movie itself is a lot of fun, particularly if you enjoy horror movies and martial arts films in equal measure, and Shout! has put together a nice package here. Recommended.
The plot is some nonsense about Dracula and a legend to do with Seven Golden Vampires in China. The bulk of the film concerns professor Van Helsing on a quest (with a load of Kung Fu fighters) to rid the world of the evil vampires. It's all quite predictable but is kept entertaining through the numerous fight scenes that seem to kick in every ten minutes or so. There's a few decent horror.
